About My Work

I’ve built applications for mobile, desktop, and web. I’ve worked on web back ends as well as front ends. I’ve built software to solve all sorts of problems.

I am a big believer in solving practical problems. I apply a very fastidious mindset to software development which favours comprehension and reliability over expedience; What I write needs to be both understandable and it should actually work. I also prefer to drive real value—I’m more interested in understanding users' problems than taking requests at face value, because I believe in solving the real instead of the imaginary.

Soft Skills

Hard Skills

It’s difficult to state “hard skills” in software development. Most hard skills relevant to a job will be learned at that specific job. That said, here is a small preview of where my experience lies:

• Familiar with many flavours of Linux

Free Software Development

I develop some applications for Linux workstations, including a tally counter, a unique command-line shell focused on text, and a distraction-free text editor. I maintain LuaGObject, which allows Lua code to use GNOME libraries such as for creating apps. I contribute to many other free software projects, mainly those for Linux’s GNOME desktop as well as apps targeting the platform.

Lead Billing Engineer

I led the development of a robust future-proof system to handle billing and entitlements in a more flexible way and to allow for more rapid iteration of pricing to better serve both individual and enterprise customer needs. My work helped drive significant growth in conversion by ensuring customers needed to pay to access premium features.

Senior Software Engineer

I led numerous large refactoring and feature-development projects in React for a cloud-based app development tool, both in the front-end and in the back-end using Typescript.

Software Developer

I led the development of an embedded application for showing ModBus data on low-power industrial signs. I also led the development of user-facing data entry applications. I assisted in full-stack development of personnel and delivery tracking applications. I helped fix bugs for many smaller software projects within Accutron Instruments and its sister companies.

Software Developer

I led and assisted in the development of software applications and hardware devices for clients in a wide variety of industries including: 3D photogrammetry, mine informatics, medical sample analysis, pharmaceutical production, and more. I deployed and maintained server systems. I also developed tooling and organizational processes for developers and clients.
